Angel Di Maria scored the only goal of the match against Switzerland which came in 2nd half of extra time to clinch Argentina a place in the quarter finals. Match highlights below.

Lionel Messi and co took on Swiss side in the round of 16 tie for a place in the quarter finals against either USA or belgium. Argentina went into the game as favourites but Switzerland made it difficult for them throughout the game and the game was 0-0 at the break. This switzerland side looked totaly different than the one who shipped 5 goals against France in the group stages, they were more compact and hit Argentina on many counter attacks.

The game itself was a borning affair and Switzerland defence had Messi and co in their pocket throughout the first 45 minutes of the game. Switzerland made Arengina player very narrow in the middle of the park and their full backs found it hard to bomb forward with their usual ease.

The second half started where the first ended, same boring game with both teams trying to keep the shape at the back and we were at a point where that rare cross was the highlights of the game. Angel Di Maria lost possession atleast 25 times but it was PSG winger Lavezzi who was replaced with Rodrigo Palacio in the 70th minute.

But after the 70th minute Argentina started to pull a few moves together and looked the most likely team to open the scoring and than came the substitution by Swiss team as they brought on Haris Seferovic for Drmic in the last 10 minute of normal play.
