Mayweather vs Maidana 2 PPV Buys Hit 925,000
The Mayweather vs Maidana 2 PPV numbers are in….
Floyd Mayweather vs Marcos Maidana 2 went down last Saturday (September 13th, 2014) and was met with mixed reviews. Fans and Pundits hoping for the thrills and spills of a big stage brawl were left rather stumped when “Money” put on a one-sided movement clinic. Nonetheless the undefeated king of boxing continued his reign, and did so with relative ease through the later rounds.
A report on Yahoo.com has been released with the Mayweather vs Maidana 2 PPV figures, and they are better than the first fight….
A source who has been generally reliable on such numbers confirmed that Mayweather’s rematch with Marcos Maidana on Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden sold 925,000 on pay-per-view. That is 25,000 better than their May fight, which sold roughly 900,000.
Showtime adopted a company policy earlier this year of not releasing pay-per-view figures, so Stephen Espinoza, Showtime’s executive vice president and general manager declined comment.
Other recent boxing PPV buy totals include:
Mayweather vs Maidana 900,000
Mayweather vs Canelo 2.2 million (record setter)
Mayweather Guerrero 840,000 (estimated)
Timothy Bradley vs Manny Pacquiao 795,000
Cotto vs Martinez was unfortunate enough to receive one of the worst modern PPV totals, with a meagre 350,000 buys, and Mayweather vs Maidana did well considering it was a rematch and also during such a busy weekend of combat sports too.
It seems that boxing PPV buys are in decline, and unless something changes quickly, they will end up dwindling…..
