After the withdrawal of Croatia’s Marin Cilic, the Brisbane International 2015 suffered another huge setback, as Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina became the second big name to pull out of the event.

The 26-year-old Tandil-resident, who missed almost 9 months of the 2014 season due to a recurring wrist injury, will open his new year’s campaign at the Sydney International, which begins in the second week of January ahead of the Australian Open.

According to NDTV Sports, the tournament officials confirmed that del Potro “was forced to withdraw with a persistent left wrist injury.”

As a replacement for del Potro in the star-studded line-up – that comprises the likes of Roger Federer and Lleyton Hewitt – the officials have included big-serving Australian Sam Groth in the main draw.

The Brisbane International begins from January 4-11 at the Pat Rafter Arena.
