Reigning U.S. Open champion, Marin Cilic, is suffering from a shoulder injury that has compelled him to pull out of the ATP 250 Brisbane International 2015, which is scheduled to kick-off from January 4.

With the Croatian withdrawing from this event that serves up as a preparatory tournament ahead of the prestigious Australian Open 2015, his odds of making it to the coveted event seem bleak.

“I had a problem last five or six months and I have to make a little break. Will it be two, three or four weeks? I do not know, but I’ll do my best to compete at the Australian Open,” Cilic was quoted as saying by Live Tennis.

Cilic, 26, was earlier drawn to play alongside a star-studded line-up including Roger Federer, Juan Martin del Potro, Kei Nishikori, Milos Raonic, and Grigor Dimitrov along the other top players.

The Australian Open 2015 is slated to begin from January 19 Down Under.
