WATCH: Marco Chiudinelli Involved in Heated Exchange With Umpire at US Open
The spate of controversies continued at the US Open 2016 as Swiss tennis player Marco Chiudinelli was involved in a heated verbal volley with the chair umpire on Wednesday.
Chiudinelli appeared well on course to march on before he squandered a two-set lead to lose 4-6 3-6 7-6 6-2 6-0 to Frenchman Lucas Pouille in the second-round battle.
The encounter spiced up early during the fifth set, when Chiudinelli appealed against a line call that he deemed was out. Visibly frustrated, he approached the umpire in disgust.
“What is happening here? That is the clearest out-court ever… clearest out-court,” he said as the umpire continually emphasized “through the line… through the line.”
“How can this guy tell me it was through the line? How is that possible? You don’t see the ball, it’s wide… it’s real wide. Not even close,” he yelled further.
This comes on the same day as a fan intruding Court 13 to take a selfie with Kateryna Bondarenko, and another tennis player ripping apart his shirt in anger.
