Roger Federer was handed a stunning four-set defeat at the hands of Greek young gun Stefanos Tsitispas in the fourth round of the Australian Open on Sunday.

And, the Swiss tennis ace, who hadn’t lost a match in 2019, was spotted wearing a glum look as he exited the Melbourne Park after addressing the media later in the day.

Meanwhile, former world No. 1 John McEnroe sparked a bit of controversy by saying the tennis world just witnessed “the changing of the guard.”

Asked about McEnroe’s comment after his defeat, Federer didn’t shy away from subtly hitting back.

“He’s in front of the mic a lot. He’s always going to say stuff. I love John, [but] I’ve heard that story the last 10 years. From that standpoint, nothing new there,” Federer said.

The 37-year-old served up a good news for his fan though, confirming his return at the French Open.

As for Tsitsipas, the 14th seed, he is scheduled to lock horns with Spain’s 22nd seed Roberto Bautista Agut in the last-eight stage.
