The Rio Open quarter-final match between Austria’s Dominic Thiem and Spain’s Fernando Verdasco was delayed due to an unforeseen circumstance: a marriage proposal.

Before the start of the match, the shutterbug shifted to the stands where a man, Igor, went down on one knee and put a ring in his partner Thamara’s finger.

The proceedings were delayed for a bit as both the players as well as the spectators and chair umpire all congratulated the couple with claps and cheers.

The match got under way soon after as Verdasco, the No. 8 seed, went on to clinch a 6-4 6-0 conquest of Thiem, the No. 2 seed, in the last-eight stage.

Verdasco will now lock horns with Italy’s No. 5 seed Fabio Fognini, who prevailed 6-7 6-3 6-1 over Britain’s Aljaz Bedene in the other quarter-final contest.
