Just a couple of days after being involved in a fiery argument with Andy Murray, controversial Italian star Fabio Fognini embroiled himself in another controversy at the ongoing Shanghai Masters.

During his third-round match against Karen Khachanov of Russia, Fognini committed a foot fault early in the second set. He, however, wasn’t amused as he appeared to spit in the linesman’s direction.

No wonder, the 32-year-old was handed a warning for ‘unsportsmanlike conduct’, reports Yahoo Sport.

That wasn’t the only controversial moment of the game though. Later in the contest, Fognini appeared to be unhappy with a spectator, whom he asked to ‘go drink some beer.”

Earlier this week, he was involved in a confrontation with multiple Grand Slam champion Murray.

“Someone made a noise, I didn’t know who made the noise, I looked in the direction of where the noise came from. He then told me, ‘Stop looking at me, what are you looking at me for?’” Murray said in the post-match press conference.

“I was like, ‘I was just about to hit a shot and someone made a noise’. He then told me to stop looking at him,” he added. “The sound came from him, which you’re not allowed to do, it’s against the rules, it’s hindrance, you shouldn’t do it.”

Controversies apart, Fognini has played some fine tennis this week that has seen him advance to the semi-finals of Masters 1000 event.
