VIDEO: Alexander Zverev unhappy with linesman for getting him code violation at Wimbledon
Alexander Zverev was unhappy with a linesman after being given a code violation during his Wimbledon defeat.
The German star’s campaign came to an early end after a 7-6 4-6 5-7 6-3 6-0 loss at the hands of Latvia’s Ernests Gulbis in the third round on Saturday.
According to reports, a linesman reportedly Zverev’s mutterings to chair umpire Carlos Ramos, who then handed a code violation to him.
No wonder, Zverev wasn’t happy with the incident. During a changeover, he went up to Ramos and questioned: “Since when can a line judge give me a warning?
“He wants to feel important in a big stadium here at Wimbledon. I suppose everyone will remember your face now,” the 21-year-old added.
This was the second such instance of a linesman escalating things to the umpire. Australia’s Nick Kyrgios, too, was handed a code violation in similar fashion during his second-round match against Robin Haase.
A new trend, maybe? Let us know what you think of it.
“Since when can a line judge give me a warning?
He just wanted to feel important once on a big court at Wimbledon… thats what he was going for.”
