Newly-crowned US Open champion Naomi Osaka lashed out at a journalist after being questioned on her nationality.

Osaka, who was born in Japan but is based out of United States, currently holds dual citizenship.

However, when she asked what choice she would be making going forward, the 20-year-old wasn’t keen to answer.

“Now you’re almost 22 years old. That means now you have to choose a nationality, according to the Japanese law. You have to choose either you’re Japanese or American. Have you decided yet?” one journalist interrogated.

“I’m 20,” she said, visibly unamused.

“Almost 22.”

“No.”

“Still two years long, but you have to decide at that time.”

“I though you said I’m turning 22 this year. What was the question.”

“Which nationality will you choose?”

“I don’t really understand why people keep asking me this. I’m pretty sure it’s obvious. I’m playing for Japan. Not be disrespectful or anything, but I don’t really get where the conclusion that it’s a hard choice for me or anything comes from.”

Meanwhile, Osaka is in Beijing to play the China Open. She is already through to the third round.
