World No. 1 Novak Djokovic showered rich praise on arch-rival and 17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer, admiring his prolonged on-court existence and consistency over the years.

At 34, the 17-time Grand Slam champion Federer has shown no signs of slowing down. In addition, the Swiss superstar has arguably been the toughest competitor for the Serb in the recent past.

For Djokovic, Federer’s longevity not only inspires him to chase the yellow fluffy ball for a few more years, but the duo’s rivalry also hones his game further.

“Roger is inspiring in so many ways for many people,” said Djokovic, who prevailed over Federer 6-1 6-2 3-6 6-3 en route his 11th Grand Slam title at the Australian Open last month.

“He’s a great champion, somebody who is very persistent. He keeps on going, keeps on playing at his age on the highest level,” he continued further.

That said, the 29-year-old Djokovic believes that Federer is still a Grand Slam contender, and that there’s no reason why he should hang up his racquet anytime soon.

“He feels like he can fight for the major titles and I don’t see a reason why he should stop playing. There is no reason. He’s playing at the very high level. He’s moving well, he’s playing great and he’s 34.”
