In a bid to get back to where he once was, Spanish tennis player Fernando Verdasco has hired former doubles World No. 1 and countryman Emilio Sanchez Vicario as his new coach for the 2017 season.

The 33-year-old Verdasco took to Twitter to make the coalition public. “Very happy to inform you that @EmilioSVicario will be part of my team for the next season,” he wrote along with a photo of his team.

Verdasco, a former World No. 7, has slipped to No. 42 in the ATP rankings. And, therefore, Vicario is ‘happy’ that his compatriot believes in him. “I’m very happy that @FerVerdasco believes that I can help him regain his place,” the 51-year-old tweeted.

Vicario, a former World No. 7 himself in singles, was mainly a doubles player. He won three Grand Slam titles in doubles, an Olympic silver and had a career-best ranking of No. 1 in the world.
