Spain’s Garbine Muguruza Talks About Partnering Rafael Nadal at Rio Olympics
Garbine Muguruza, who rose to fame after an incredible 2015 season that saw her peak to a career-high ranking of No. 3 in the world, is looking to pull off bigger feats in the forthcoming year.
Being the highest-ranked player from Spain, she’s projected to partner countryman and 14-time Grand Slam champion, Rafael Nadal, for the mixed doubles event at the next year’s Rio Olympics. And, she’s already keyed up for it!
Speaking about the possible camaraderie, Muguruza told puntodebreak: “It would be amazing (to partner Nadal). (We) would do very well. (It) is a very good plan.”
The 22-year-old spoke about her pre-season training plans, divulging that she would practice in California before kicking-off her preparations for the season-opening Grand Slam at the Australian Open.
“I’m going to California to do the pre-season, a place where the climate is more suited to the infernal heat live in Australia,” she said.
