Simona Halep has set her short-term and long-term goals. Her immediate goal is to wind-up the season inside the top-three of the WTA rankings, while her distant goals include attaining the numero uno position and pulling off a Grand Slam title.

Halep, who had peaked to a career-best ranking of No. 2 back in 2014, is hopeful of making the most out of the remaining season. Having pulled out of the last week’s tournament in Tokyo, the Romanian is keen on making it up at her next events – Wuhan, Beijing and Singapore.

“I want to finish [the year] in the top three, but I don’t know if this will happen,” the 25-year-old was quoted as saying by Romania Insider. “I have to do well in these three tournaments, and then we’ll see. My health condition is very good now. I’m confident and I hope to play as good as possible.”

Talking about her future goals, Halep added: “I don’t know if [No. 1 ranking] will happen. I have to win a Grand Slam first. I’m working for this, and I hope to get there one day.”

She reached closer to her dream of clinching a major when she made it to the final of the French Open 2014, but was eventually denied by Maria Sharapova in a closely-fought battle.

Halep is currently ranked fifth in the world.
