Did Serena Williams just take a subtle dig at rival Maria Sharapova on Twitter?

It’s not an obscure fact that Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova are rivals not just on court, but off it as well.

Restarting the rivalry that had been still for quite some time, Williams appeared to have taken a subtle dig at Sharapova before the latter tamely lost in straight-sets to Angelique Kerber in the third round of Australian Open Saturday.

It happened after a Williams supporter wrote in support of Sharapova ahead of her clash with Kerber. “Be mad at me later… I kinda want sharapova to win tomorrow,” the tweet read.

Visibly unhappy, Williams shot back with an emoticon of an emotion-less face.

The duo’s off-court rivalry dates back to 2004, when Williams allegedly addressed Sharapova as a “b***h” after losing the Wimbledon final.

To add to their incendiary relationship, Williams also hit out at Sharapova over her relationship with now-estranged boyfriend Grigor Dimitrov in 2014, before the Russian too questioned the American’s personal life.
