Serena Williams Officially Clinches Year-Ending No. 1 Ranking

She’s is touted as the best female tennis player at present by many, and rightly so for her dominance on the court has been unprecedented. Serena Williams, the 18-time Grand Slam winner, has officially finished the year as the World No.1 tennis player for the fourth time in her career.

With no bolt from the blue, 2014 was a terrific season for Serena with a few startling blows. She won 7 Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) titles on the tour this year, including the prestigious United States Open Tennis Championships, before triumphing at the World Tour Finals in Singapore.

“It’s pretty awesome,” an ecstatic Serena was quoted as per saying by “I never, never thought I would be playing this long. Or if I were playing this long, I figured I’d be playing doubles. Definitely not being No.1 in the world in singles.

“I was the best I could be this year for me, and I’m so looking forward to next year. I can’t wait to get started again,” she concluded.

Meanwhile, Italian pair of Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci bagged the top honours in doubles category.
