Serena Williams: ‘I’m Trying to Catch Up Steffi Graf’s Record of 22 Grand Slams’

With 18 Grand Slam titles in her kitty, Serena Williams is one of the most successful athletes of all time. But for the fancied American, even sky is not the limit to get the success done.

Speaking to 18-time Grand Slam champ Chris Evert for ESPN, top-ranked Williams expressed her desire to catch-up with legendary Steffi Graf’s record of winning 22 Grand Slam titles.

“Well, it’s no secret. I’m going for the gusto,” responded Serena when inquired about her clandestine behind success ratio at the majors.

“I’m going to try to catch up with Steffi. But right now I’m really focused on 19, which will begin in Australia,” she continued further, eying another triumphant Australia Open next season.

“Whether I get there or not, I don’t know. But I know if I get to 19, the second it happens I will be thinking of 20.”

Williams will warm-up for the Australia Open 2015 by representing the United States of America at Hopman Cup in January.
