World No. 1 Serena Williams created a stir at the Australian Open after she entered the court wearing an unusual outfit – a neon yellow combination of crop top and pleated skirt – taking her fans by surprise, with the majority of them disapproving her choice.

However, the 34-year-old Williams defended her decision of opting for unusual attire. “I live in a crop top, sleep in crop tops. I’m often never seen without one. So I thought, you know, it would be really fun to play in one,” she said after her third-round win Down Under.

“I always think of classic, so I wanted a pleated skirt because a pleated skirt is very classic,” the American powerhouse elucidated further. “Then I always try to bring in what’s popular and what is in style, what’s so in. That’s what I wanted to do with the top.”

Meanwhile, Williams had an easy day in the office as she stormed past Russia’s Daria Kasatkina, 6-1 6-1 in the third-round battle that lasted just 44 minutes. Up next, she is scheduled to cross the swords with another Russian in Margarita Gasparyan for a place in the pre-quarterfinals.
