Roger Federer opines that arch-rival Rafael Nadal’s return to the top doesn’t surprise him at all, as he believes that someone of the latter’s caliber doesn’t lose his quality.

The 29-year-old Nadal, who continually struggled to find his feet, got the better of the rough patch as pulled off the Monte Carlo Masters title, where, in process, he defeated the likes of Stanislas Wawrinka, Andy Murray and Gael Monfils.

Further extending his winning streak at the ongoing Barcelona Open, the Spaniard notched up a couple of easy victories to enter the quarter-finals of the tournament.

Although his resurgence has taken the tennis world by surprise, it didn’t daze Federer. In an interview with Gazzetta World, the Swiss was asked if he was stunned to see Nadal get back to winning ways, and he replied: “Absolutely not.”

“A guy who has won nine times in Paris, nine times in Monte Carlo, who was No.1 in the world for a long time doesn’t lose his quality,” he added.

Further praising the Spaniard, Federer stated: “For me he’ll always be near the top and is still one of the top two or three players in the world.”
