‘Roger Federer is the only one who can stop Novak Djokovic’

Three-time French Open champion and former World No. 1, Gustavo Kuerten, believes that Roger Federer is the only one who can challenge Novak Djokovic’s dominance on court.

Djokovic, who is unbeaten in 28 matches this season (barring an injury withdrawal), has undisputedly been a level above the rest of his counterparts over the last few years, and is already being touted as one of the greatest players of all time by many. But, Federer has managed to stage some competition more often than not against his top rival.

That said, the 39-year-old Kuerten seems mighty impressed with how Federer has evolved over the years, and that even at 34, he’s being able to compete at the highest level.

“Djokovic is on a higher level than all other players,” Kuerten said. “The only one who could face him really is Federer. It is impressive to see the level reached by Swiss and his ability to evolve,” he added.

Djokovic, who recently notched his 11th Grand Slam title at the Australian Open earlier this year, trails 17-time champion Federer by a considerable number of majors. However, Kuerten insists that the Serb will have the opportunity to bridge the gap in the next couple of years.

“In the next two years, Novak will have the opportunity to be closer to the Grand Slam record of Federer, and could become one of the strongest in history.”
