Rafael Nadal’s form has been the most talked-about topic in the last few months. The Spaniard went Grand Slam-less in 2015, but showed signs of resurgence in last couple of months of the season. While the detractors are always there, there were many who backed him to do well in the 2016 season.

David Ferrer, compatriot of 14-time Grand Slam champion Nadal, propped up the latter to get back to winning ways as he believes that Nadal will start winning the majors again, and that he will also vie for the numero uno position in the world rankings.

“Last year was not his best year. But I think he will do very well in 2016,” Khaleej Times quoted Ferrer as saying. “As you know he didn’t play great tennis in 2015, but don’t forget that he still finished in the top five (of world rankings).”

He continued: “He played good tennis in the last two months of the year. I think Rafa will be fighting for the world number one spot in 2016 and I am confident that he will start winning Grand Slams again.”

Meanwhile, both Nadal and Ferrer are scheduled to kick-off the new season at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship that begins today in Abu Dhabi.
