Rafael Nadal will get to Roger Federer’s 19 Grand Slams: Uncle Toni

Rafael Nadal’s coach-cum-uncle Toni believes the Spaniard will get to Roger Federer’s record tally of 19 Grand Slams.

While Swiss ace Federer won two Majors — the Australian Open and Wimbledon — this year, Nadal emulated him by winning the rest two — French Open and US Open — to pull off his 16th Major at Flushing Meadows last week.

And that seems to have given uncle Toni a renewed sense of confidence. “We will get to Federer’s 19, yes,” he told Spanish radio station Cope (via Metro).

“I think it will happen. It’s difficult, but there is some more Roland Garros and I am confident other titles will come,” the 56-year-old continued.

“We are very happy that he has won another Grand Slam, his 16th, and is in a position to fight for No. 1.

“It was unimaginable that would happen, of course. But I had faith that Rafael would win one more Grand Slam, I tell you truthfully.”

Meanwhile, Nadal is next scheduled to participate at the ATP event in Beijing (October 2-8), while Federer will headline the Shanghai Open draw the following week.
