World No. 1 Rafael Nadal will feature in Fast4 – a tennis equivalent of cricket’s Twenty20 format – in January next year.

The Spaniard will compete alongside the likes of Grigor Dimitrov, Alexander Zverev and Nick Kyrgios in an event that features four-set matches and rules different to that of tradition tennis.

“Rafael Nadal is a superstar, not just in tennis but in international sport and it will be fantastic to welcome him back to Sydney to play FAST4 Tennis, a format that was pioneered here in the Harbour City,” Adam Marshall, New South Wales tourism minister, was quoted as saying by news.com.au.

Nadal, 31, is slated to kick-off his 2018 season at the Brisbane International, where he will vie for the title with some of the big names in the circuit including Andy Murray, Kei Nishikori and Milos Raonic among the others.

Nadal will then head to Melbourne to participate at the Australian Open – season’s first Grand Slam – from January 15. He had lost a close final to arch-rival Roger Federer in 2017 Down Under.
