Rafael Nadal has been confirmed to participate in the doubles event at this week’s ATP 500 China Open in Beijing.

Nadal, who had won the men’s doubles gold alongside fellow Spaniard Marc Lopez at the Rio Olympics, will pair up with another countryman Pablo Carreno-Busta.

The duo has been drawn to meet the third-seeded Indian-Canadian combination of Rohan Bopanna and Daniel Nestor in the first round.

Nadal and Carreno-Busta have paired up just once before – at the Indian Wells last year – where they won two matches in straight sets before going down in the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, Spain will be represented by another doubles pair, comprising of David Ferrer and Roberto Bautista Agut, who are scheduled to begin their campaign against top seeds Mike and Bob Bryan.

Ferrer and Agut had previously played together at the Rio Olympics, where they managed a run to the quarter-finals before being shown the door by eventual bronze medalists Jack Sock and Steve Johsnon.

The winner of the doubles title will walk away with 500 ATP points and prize money of $195,590.
