Rafael Nadal could make his return at the next month’s Rogers Cup in Toronto if his wrist recovery process goes well, according to his uncle and coach Toni Nadal.

The Spaniard injured his left wrist last month that forced him to pull out of the French Open midway through the tournament, and has been dormant on the tour ever since.

The degree of injury was so much so that he even withdrew from the upcoming Wimbledon Championships in order to safeguard his fitness for the rest of the season.

Unlce Toni, however, notified that his nephew could tune-up for the Rio Olympics by participating in Toronto.

“Rafa is doing well. The Federation doctor has said that everything is progressing as it should, in the time frame we expected,” Uncle Toni was quoted as saying by ATP World Tour.

“Now he has to start strengthening his wrist and his arm a little bit, and in two weeks we will start training step by step, working a little bit harder each day.

“The doctor said everything is on the right track. The plan is to play Toronto if everything goes well,” he concluded.

The Rogers Cup is slated to be held from July 25-31, with the Rio Olympics commencing after a week’s period.
