Tennis stars Novak Djokovic and Stanislas Wawrinka will make their comebacks at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship — a professional exhibition event — scheduled to be held from December 28-30 on the hard courts of Abu Dhabi.

Both Djokovic and Wawrinka have been sidelined from action since retiring midway during Wimbledon this year. While the former has been nursing an elbow injury, the latter ended his season early to undergo a knee surgery.

“I am extremely excited to return to Abu Dhabi for the fifth time,” said Djokovic, a former world No. 1 and a 12-time Grand Slam champion.

He added: “It is a huge honour to take part in such a special tournament. The line-up is very strong as always and it will be the perfect way to make my comeback and begin the season.”

Wawrinka, a three-time Grand Slam winner, is also looking forward to returning to competitive tennis again. “It is always a pleasure to kick the season off at the beautiful event in Abu Dhabi,” he said.

“My recovery is going well and I can’t wait to be back on court. I’m working hard together with my team and looking forward to being back,” the Swiss added.

Djokovic and Wawrinka will compete alongside the likes of Spain’s Rafael Nadal, Canada’s Milos Raonic, and Austria’s Dominic Thiem among the others, for the 10th edition of the tournament.
