World No. 1 Novak Djokovic faced a surprise 6-3 7-5 defeat to David Goffin in his opening match at the Boodles Challenge exhibition, which also served as his debut on grass this season.

Fresh from completing a Career Grand Slam at the French Open, the Serb opted to partake at the exhibition event here in Stoke Park that serves up as a tune-up heading into the Wimbledon.

However, it turned out to be an unpleasant start for Djokovic, who was outplayed in one hour and 16 minutes by his 11th-ranked Belgian nemesis, who recorded his maiden victory in five meetings against the Serb.

Meanwhile, Djokovic was expectedly named the top seed for Wimbledon, and is slated to avoid the likes of Andy Murray (2), Roger Federer (3), and Stanislas Wawrinka (4) at least until the semi-finals.

The Wimbledon begins from July 27 at the renowned All England Club.
