World No. 2 Maria Sharapova has set her eyes upon a booming new season, as she gears up for the Brisbane International 2015 that begins from January 4-11 at the Pat Rafter Arena.

The lanky 6’2” Russian is slated to feature in a star-studded line-up this week that comprises of some top players including Serbia’s Ana Ivanovic, Victoria Azarenka of Belarus, Germany’s Angelique Kerber, Slovakian Dominika Cibulkova, and local favorite Samantha Stosur.

However, Sharapova just wants to be the best player out there.

“I just want to focus on matches and competing well and being the best player out there,” 27-year-old Sharapova was quoted as saying by TVNZ.

“I want to start the year well. It’s nice to come back to Brisbane. It was my first time playing here last year,” she continued further. “I think it’s one of the best tournaments, a tough field, it’s great preparation for all of us, I think that’s why so many of us love coming here”

This tournament serves up as a preparatory event for the Australian Open – the first Grand Slam of the year.
