Kei Nishikori Reigns Supreme in Barcelona; Angelique Kerber Wins Stuttgart Crown
Top seed Kei Nishikori successfully defended his Barcelona Open title after defeating local hope Pablo Andujar in the title-clash on Sunday. The Japanese favorite looked rusty in patches but prevailed 6-4 6-4 ultimately.
Nishikori won 70 percent of his first-serve points and broke his opponent’s service games twice each in both the sets to emerge the champion for the second time in a row at the tournament.
Besides retaining 500 ranking points, Nishikori received € 457,550 as prize money for his triumph.
Meanwhile, Marin Draganja and Henri Kontinen won the doubles title after scoring a 3-6 7-6 11-9 win against Jamie Murray and John Peers in the doubles final.
KERBER CLINCHES STUTTGART TITLE
The WTA Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart saw an upset in the Sunday’s title-clash, as unseeded Angelique Kerber of Germany stunned 4th seed Caroline Wozniacki 3-6 6-1 7-5 in a grueling battle that went over two hours.
By the virtue of this win, Kerber improved her win-loss record by 6-4 again her Danish counterpart.
