Former World No. 8 Janko Tipsarevic has accepted wildcard for next week’s U.S. Men’s Clay Court Tennis Championship, an ATP 250 event that is scheduled to be held from April 6-12.

Making his return to the professional tennis circuit for the first time after a 17-month layoff due to multiple injuries, Tipsarevic had an appalling start last week at the Miami Open, where he partnered fellow Serb Novak Djokovic to crash out in the first round of the doubles event.

His singles recital is untested though. According to reports, Tipsarevic has been granted the wildcard along with some other players including Spain’s Feliciano Lopez, Nicolas Jarry of Chile, and local lad Ryan Sweeting.

Besides defending champion Fernando Verdasco, the main draw also comprises of other well-known tennis players that include Roberto Bautista Agut, Gael Monfils, John Isner, and Bernard Tomic.

This year’s event at the River Oaks Country Club will be the 47th edition of the tournament.
