Steve Johnson snapped his four-match losing streak at the ASB Classic on Tuesday. But, the American tennis player had to deal with an embarrassing moment too.

Serving at 6-5 (40-30) against Italian lucky loser Liam Caruana in the first round, Johnson missed an overhand return by miles as the ball landed way outside the line, bouncing straight into the stands.

Johnson, however, recovered to win the game, set and match, 7-5 7-6 (4) in one hour and 44 minutes.

“I’ve played him a few times and he’s got the best of me every time,” Johnson was quoted as saying by nzherald.co.nz.

“I’m going to go out there and try do something different; do what we’ve been working on and hopefully change the outcome.

“A lot has changed since then so it’s a good measure of how both of our games are and where we are to start the year. Hopefully I can build on today and keep getting better.”

Moving on, the world No. 46 is scheduled to square off against 5th seed Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain for a place in the quarter-finals of the ATP 250 event.
