The French Davis Cup team suffered a huge setback after their top singles tennis player Jo-Wilfried Tsonga withdrew from the semi-final tie against Croatia due to a knee injury.

The 31-year-old had picked up the injury during the US Open last week, when he was forced to pull out of his quarter-final encounter against top seed Novak Djokovic while trailing two sets to love.

Consequently, French captain Yannick Noah named Richard Gasquet as Tsonga’s replacement for the other singles rubber alongside Gael Monfils. Wimbledon champions Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hughes Herbert are slated to pair up for the doubles rubber.

Meanwhile, the Croatian team will be represented by Marin Cilic, Borna Coric, Ivan Dodig, and Marin Draganja.

The tie will take place from September 16-18 on indoor hard courts of Kresimir Cosic Hall in Zadar, Croatia.
