India’s Test Captain Virat Kohli Reveals His Fitness Mantra

It goes without saying that Virat Kohli is one of the fittest guys around in the world of cricket. A lean physique like that of him would need years of hard work and sacrifice. However, the Indian Test captain revealed that his love for fitness started only after the Indian Premier League in 2012.

“Until IPL 2012, I did not focus much on the physical aspect, I never got into the minute details of fitness, things like what I need to eat from morning to night, how much I need to work out and how much I need to train,” Kohli was quoted as saying by

The 27-year-old gained popularity as India’s poster boy after making a “lifestyle change” to commit to the world of fitness. Reflecting on his choice by hindsight, Kohli insists that it has only made him a better batsman and a quicker fielder on field.

“I was never a quick fielder. I was never willing to field in every position. But after becoming fitter, lighter and stronger, I overcame all those doubts I had. Now it has become second nature to me. I have never been as fit as I am today.

“It has worked beautifully for me. Even in my off-time, I watch what I eat.”

Meanwhile, Kohli is scheduled to lead India in a four-match Test series against hosts West Indies in July-August, before a three-match series against New Zealand at home that ensues in September-October.
