Garbine Muguruza’s early season preparations hit a minor roadblock after a flight delay postponed her Australia arrival by 24 hours.

According to CourierMail, the Qantas flight that took off for Brisbane from Los Angeles International Airport had to return to Los Angeles as the aircraft had been losing fuel.

Muguruza was travelling with hundreds of other passangers – all of whom will now land Down Under early on Friday.

“Qantas Flight 16 (QF16) travelling from Los Angeles to Brisbane, returned to Los Angeles shortly after take-off when the pilots became aware of the weather radar system working incorrectly,” the report quoted a Qantas spokesperson as saying.

“We apologise for the delay, however we always put safety before schedule.”

Muguruza (24), who won her second Grand Slam title at Wimbledon earlier this year, is scheduled to begin her new season at the Brisbane International, starting January 1.
