Reigning Australian Open champion Angelique Kerber has set her eyes upon finishing atop at the Rio Olympic Games that begin from August 5.

The German superstar had sustained an injury to her elbow that forced her out of the last week’s Ericsson Open in Bastad. She, however, is certain of getting back in shape well in time before the sport’s mega-event.

“My Olympic start is not in danger of my arm is doing better day by day, I’ll treat myself intensively,” the 28-year-old was quoted as saying by

The 2016 season has been Kerber’s breakthrough year in terms of her performance at the majors. The World No. 2 won her maiden Grand Slam title Down Under by defeating top-ranked Serena Williams in the final.  She inched closer to her second triumph at Wimbledon, but was denied by the same opponent in the title-clash.

That Kerber has tasted success at the premier tournaments, she is dreaming nothing but to clinch the gold medal in Rio de Janerio. “[Winning] gold would be the absolute dream,” she said.
