Don’t Think Anybody Could Do What Serena Williams is Doing, Says Marion Bartoli

Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli, who retired from professional circuit in 2013, heaped praise on top female tennis player Serena Williams by accentuating her distinctiveness.

“Serena is an amazing champion, I faced it from the other side of the net, and I can tell you it was very difficult,” Bartoli was quoted as saying by Khaleej Times. “It was such a huge challenge. Serena is winning so many slams because she is unique.”

The 31-year-old Frenchwoman further opined that even as there have been certain players to give Serena a run for her money, the American has invariably managed to run a ring around them all the time.

“The challengers have been always there – (Maria) Sharapova, (Victoria) Azarenka, (Petra) Kvitova, and (Simona) Halep. But she is beating them all the time,” she continued.

However, Bartoli believes that it would not be fair to evaluate her with the former players like Steffi Graf, Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert in the debate concerning ‘the greatest of all time’.

“It’s so difficult to compare players. It will be unfair to say if she is better than Steffi, Navratilova and Evert. It’s like comparing Roger Federer with Rod Laver.”
