Austrian tennis star Dominic Thiem has committed to play the Gerry Weber Open — an ATP 500 event — for the next two years.

The 24-year-old Thiem, who is considered to be the future of tennis by many, has already climbed to No. 8 in the world. He has also reached back-to-back semi-finals at the French Open in 2016 and ’17.

“Halle is a remarkable tournament,” the Austrian said, confirming his participation for the Wimbledon tune-up event. He had reached the semi-finals of the tournament last year, but crashed out in the second round this season.

Apart from Thiem, the other big names in the line-up include 19-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer of Switzerland and 2016 Olympic bronze medallist Kei Nishikori of Japan.

The Gerry Weber Open is held on the grass courts of Halle, Germany, in third week of June.
