Denis Shapovalov had a disappointing day in the office on Monday.

The Canadian 20th seed crashed out in the first round of the French Open after tasting a 6-7 3-6 4-6 defeat at the hands of Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff.

Shapovalov looked absolutely powerless on serve, committing as many as six doubles faults and managing to win just 39 per cent of the points on his second serve during the lopsided battle that lasted two hours and 10 minutes.

To make things worse, the 20-year-old accidentally fired one serve that went on to hit a ball girl in the face. Struff was quick to check if she was okay before Shapovalov too came over to apologise, much to the applause of the crowd.

The incident, that happened during the first game of the third set, left her in pain as she went off to seek medical help (CLICK HERE TO WATCH VIDEO).

Meanwhile, Struff is next scheduled to cross the swords with Radu Albot on Wednesday.
