Amid speculations of Rafael Nadal’s possible partnership with Garbine Muguruza for the mixed doubles event at the next year’s Rio Olympics, it has emerged that another Spaniard has articulated her desire to feature alongside the former.

Carla Suarez Navarro, who is ranked 13th in both singles and doubles, asserted that it would be a dream come true if she gets to join forces with Nadal for the sport’s mega-event.

Speaking to mundodeportivo, the 27-year-old was asked if she would like to partner Nadal for Rio Olympics, she said: “Imagine, a third Olympics in my career and mixed doubles with Rafael Nadal. For me it would fulfill a dream. If there is the possibility, I don’t have to think, it is a clear ‘yes’.”

Reflecting on plunge in Nadal’s form this year, Suarez Navarro said that it’s absolutely normal for a player to go through rough patches.

“Now people have realized that Rafa is human, but it is logical that he’s had his bad times,” she stated. “This gives strength to work, sacrifice and effort they were doing to earn so much and be so amazing. He has continued to fight and I think he’s very clear where to go to get back to the top.”
