Fresh from his semifinal loss to top rival Novak Djokovic at the Monet Carlo Masters last week, Rafael Nadal looked in no mood to squander any opportunity of getting in shape ahead of the French Open, as he looked in fine touch to topple fellow Spaniard Nicolas Almagro 6-3 6-1 in the first round of the Barcelona Open 2015.

3rd seed David Ferrer also kicked-off his campaign on a winning note, as he shrugged off a tepid challenge from wildcard-entrant Albert Montanes in yet another battle of the Spaniards on Wednesday.

However, reigning United States Open champion and the 4th seed of the tournament, Marin Cilic, faced a stunning 6-4 6-4 defeat from the hands from 34-year-old Victor Estrella Burgos.
