Top seed Gilles Simon produced a stellar performance to brush aside old warhorse Janko Tipsarevic to power through to the quarterfinals of the ATP 250 BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy 2015 on Thursday.

The Frenchman did nothing but everything to consolidate his serve, pulling off a 7-5 6-4 triumph against the resurging Serb in the second-round encounter that lasted for just under two hours.

Up next, Simon is scheduled to face off against Spain’s Daniel Gimeno-Traver, who clinched a 7-5 6-2 win over Nikola Mektic of Croatia in the round of 16.

2nd seed Gael Monfils of France also had an easy day in the office, as the energetic Frenchman looked in a solid touch to rout Russian veteran Mikhail Youzhny 6-1 6-2 in just a 55-minute affair.

Moving on, he is slated to lock the fists with eighth-seeded Italian Simone Bolelli in the quarterfinals, who got the better of Austrian Andrea Haider-Maurer 6-4 6-4 in the second round.
