Former World No. 1 Ana Ivanovic has shrugged off retirement talks even as she continues to battle an extended lean patch.

The Serbian tennis sensation, best known for winning the French Open in 2008, suffered her fourth defeat on the trot after conceding a 7-6 6-1 loss to little-known Denisa Allertova of Czech Republic in the first round of the US Open on Tuesday.

Despite the continued failure, Ivanovic is keen on digging her way back to winning ways rather than quitting.

“No [I’m not retiring]… not at all. I just need to really see why this is happening,” the 28-year-old said, following her stunning defeat to her 89th-ranked opponent.

She continued: “I really feel like I have to reassess because I have been putting so many hours on court and in the gym in particular trying to get my body healthy.

“It’s been very frustrating not getting anything in return, because I really feel like I invested my heart.”

Her loss comes on the back of a first-round exit from Wimbledon, following which she also failed to win a match at the Rio Olympics and Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati.

Ivanovic’s record worsened to 15-16 so far this season.
