World No. 3 Stan Wawrinka has been confirmed to play at this week’s ATP Paris Masters event that got under way on Monday, reports puntodebreak.

Wawrinka was skeptical of his participation – citing exhaustion – following his stunning quarter-final loss to Germany’s Mischa Zverev at Swiss Indoors in Basel last week. The Swiss star had said that he might contemplate returning directly for the year-ending ATP Finals in London.

“I will see the way I am feeling with my body. [I] know my game is there, but this tournament in Basel exhausted me,” Wawrinka had said (quotes via Tennis.com).

He added: “I spent a lot of energy at all levels here. And then there is the [ATP Finals] at the back. I want full motivation in London.”

But, the 31-year-old confirmed his presence through a press conference, and has been drawn to meet Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff in the first round.
