Aliize Cornet embroiled herself in a bit of controversy after taking her t-shirt off at the US Open on Tuesday.

During her first-round match against Johanna Larsson on Tuesday, Cornet took a brief heat-break. Upon coming back to the court, however, she realized her t-shirt was inside out.

The Frenchwoman subsequently took it off and wore it the right way, much to the dismay of chair umpire who gave her a code violation.

No wonder, Cornet, who had her sports bra on, was shocked by that, before she went on to lose 6-4 3-6 2-6.

The controversy didn’t go down well among some in the fraternity. Andy Murray’s mother Judy was quick to accuse the chair umpire of sexism on Twitter.

“Alize Cornet came back to court after 10 minute heat break (sic). Had her fresh shirt on back to front. Changed at back of court. Got a code violation. Unsportsmanlike conduct….. But the men can change shirts on court,” she questioned.

While Bethanie Mattek-Sands labelled it “weak”, Casey Dellaqua called it “ridiculous”.

For the record, there have been similar incidences in the past. While former world No. 1 Jelena Jankovic once changed her undies on court, Dominika Cibulkova almost took her top off before being asked not to do so.
