French tennis player Alize Cornet took aim at her former sponsor Lacoste for ‘burning all their money’ on Serbian star Novak Djokovic.

Lacoste, a French clothing company, is one of the sponsors of Djokovic, who has been inactive since pulling out of Wimbledon in July due to elbow injury.

Cornet, who was previously associated with Lacoste but chose Lotto recently, poked some fun at the former sponsor of hers.

In an interview with American journalist Ben Rothenberg, Cornet said: “Yeah, I think Lacoste burned all its money on Djokovic. And he didn’t play the whole year, so good investment! Congrats, guys!”

The 27-year-old, however, tweeted that it was meant to be a ‘joke’.

She wrote: “It was meant to be a joke Ben (a bad one indeed), I didn’t think you’d only take this out from the 15 min chat we had.

“No offense to Lacoste or Novak, everybody knows, including me, that he is 1000 times more valuable than me. And I’m more than excited to be with Lotto now.”
