Swiss tennis maestro Roger Federer has said that he feels good heading into next month’s Shanghai Masters.

Federer, who hasn’t played since losing to Juan Martin del Potro in the quarter-finals of US Open earlier this month (he featured in the just-concluded Laver Cup though), said he will be landing in Shanghai early.

“I only play when I’m healthy and right now I feel good. I’m coming to Shanghai early, possibly the Friday before the tournament, and this is my first focus,” the 19-time Grand Slam champion was quoted as saying by bolamarela.

Federer added that he would prefer featuring at the ATP 500 event in Basel (October 23-29) in front of his home crowd than to compete at the ATP 1000 Masters event in Paris (October 30-November 5).

“The next few weeks are extremely important to me. I’ll just focus on myself and play when I’m ready. Basel is a priority with regard to Paris, for example,” the 35-year-old said.

“It’s more important in my calendar.”
