Former US Open champion, Juan Martin Del Potro, has been granted a wildcard entry to the main draw of the Mercedes Cup, an ATP 250 event, to be held in Stuttgart, Germany from June 6-12.

The tournament serves as one of the kick-starters to the grass-court season.

This comes just days after Del Potro pulled out of the prestigious Roland Garros due to recurring wrist issues to focus on the grass season.

The Argentine giant now joins fellow Grand Slam champions Roger Federer and Marin Cilic as the other top players in the star-studded field.

Speaking of Del Potro’s addition to the draw, tournament director Edwin Weindorfer said: “We are pleased that with Roger Federer, Marin Cilic, and now Del Potro – three Grand Slam winners will be a part of the tournament.”

Interestingly, the 27-year-old Del Potro had triumphed at the same venue in 2008 on clay.
