Former World No. 1 Mats Wilander backed an in-form Andy Murray to continue his fine form at the prestigious Roland Garros 2016 that is scheduled to begin next week.

Murray will enter the premier clay tournament on the back of winning the Rome Masters title, where in process, he defeated the top-ranked Novak Djokovic in straight sets.

The 29-year-old has some major titles under his belt including two Grand Slam triumphs at the US Open and Wimbledon as well as the gold medal from the London Olympics.

That said, Wilander, 51, believes that there’s no reason why the Brit tennis star could not ride on the purple patch to pull off the Roland Garros crown this time around.

“I think Murray – he’s done so many things. Can he ever win Wimbledon? He did that. Can he ever win a Grand Slam? He did that at the US Open in 2012. He won the Olympics at home and has won the Davis Cup now,” Wilander told Eurosport.

“I think five sets favour him. Although we know how hard a time he’s had against Djokovic lately in three-out-of-five finals,” he added. Murray trails Djokovic by 11-23 in their career meetings.
