Saints RBs Khiry Robinson & Pierre Thomas Ruled Out For Week 8

Khiry Robinson

The New Orleans Saints received some seriously bad news today (Fri., October 24, 2014) when the team announced that running backs Khiry Robinson and Pierre Thomas will both sit out of their pivotal Week 8 home game against the surging Green Bay Packers.

Robinson has been dealing with a forearm issue and Thomas has been suffering from a shoulder ailment.

With the announcement, running back Mark Ingram, who just returned last week in the Saints’ close loss to the Detroit Lions, should assume the majority of the backfield work, with Travaris Cadet filling in on obvious passing downs.

Ingram was off to a strong start in 2014 before a broken hand suffered in Week 2 caused to miss the next four games. He’s a punishing runner who couldn’t get much going against the Lions, who boast the league’s No. 1-ranked defense.

However, this weekend should be a much different story, as the Saints will be playing in their beloved Superdome against a team who only has the No. 31-ranked rush defense.

Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been lights out in recent weeks, meaning that the Saints will likely try to control the clock with a heavy dose of Ingram and his punishing running style.

However, New Orleans’ defense has been absolutely atrocious in 2014, and Rodgers will likely find his lethal arsenal of aerial weapons early and often.

The Saints have also had trouble stopping the run, so Green Bay’s power runner Eddie Lacy could see a big (and effective) workload himself.

New Orleans will have their hands full in Week 8 as they attempt to resurrect a season that is quickly turning into a massive letdown. They’ll be without two of their best running backs when they do so, but they could be forced to air the ball out if playing from behind.

Still, Ingram has shown us glimpses of the huge potential that made him a first round selection four years ago. Will he get back on track against Green Bay’s lackluster front seven this weekend?
