Lions vs Falcons highlights

The Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons met up in an overseas showdown today (Sun., October 26, 2014) at London’s Wembley Stadium.

Atlanta was mired in a disappointing downswing with four straight losses after starting the season 2-1. With major issues on the offensive and defensive line, the Falcons had a tall task ahead of them against the NFL’s No. 1 defense.

Meanwhile, Detroit was sitting pretty atop the NFC North, boasting a record of 5-2. They had been largely successful despite the absence of star wide receiver Calvin Johnson, and were the favorites to blow Atlanta out of the water in London.

However, the game certainly didn’t start according to plan.

Atlanta drew first blood with a 7-yard pass to rookie Devonta Freeman, his first-ever touchdown in the NFL (courtesy of Vine):

The Falcons added onto their lead with a 1-yard score to Bear Pascoe. They didn’t stop there, however, intercepting Matt Satafford and incredibly making it 21-0 with this short rushing score by veteran running back Steven Jackson.

The Lions were down but not out, and they added a third quarter field goal by Matt Prater.

They closed Atlanta’s lead to 21-10 with a perfect 59-yard strike to wide receiver Golden Tate, giving Stafford the all-time record for Lions passing touchdowns (Vine):

Ryan threw an ill-advised interception when the Falcons took over, but Detroit could only muster another field goal.

But the Lions capitalized on their next drive, adding a short touchdown by running back Theo Riddick. They failed to convert the two-point conversion, leaving the score at 21-19.

The Falcons gave the ball back to the Lions, and Stafford drove them down the field to set Matt Prater up for a 43-yard field goal to win the game with only seconds left.

He missed it, but a delay of game penalty on the Lions gave them another shot, this time at a 48-yard. Prater made it this time, giving the Lions an impressive come-from-behind win (Vine):
